It’s almost time for our JUST IMAGINE book group!
It’s almost time to gather in the Clubhouse for our JUST IMAGINE themed book group! June members, don’t forget to join us on Thursday 26th August at 8pm (BST), when we’ll be joined by our special guest author Phoebe North. Phoebe can’t wait to meet you all and to answer your questions about their brilliant book, Strange Creatures!
We were really intrigued when we heard about the premise of Strange Creatures: an imaginary world, a missing brother, a dark mystery… this book sounded right up our street. And when we started reading, we were struck by how dark the story got and how sensitively Phoebe had handled the harrowing issues and relationships at its core. Here at Book Box Club, we don’t like to shy away from books that confront serious subjects (particularly when they do so in such a thought-provoking way), so we knew we had to share Strange Creatures with you. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

Hi Everyone,
I have a few questions to Pheobe next Thursday:
– How is Gumlea pronounced? Is it Gum-lee-a or Gum-lay-a?
– Why does Annie always write God as G-d? I thought when I first saw it that it might just be Nina’s pronunciation, but it kept on happening.
– Why did you choose to put the Epilogue at the start of the book?
– You use some different formats in different parts of the book – why, for example, are the parts narrated by Jamie mostly sans-pronunciation and mixed up so much with Gumlea? I’m not sure about everyone else, but I found it really confusing.

Hi I have two questions for Phoebe please. I loved this book! I wondered why you chose to redact Annie and Jamie’s surname? Also, is the epilogue part of the book they write together or part of their wider story? I kind of don’t mind not knowing!…I like the mystery between what is real and what isn’t but just wondered if anything more you could say about the epilogue part of the story, with the beacons etc. Thank you!
