Introducing our October Theme
Our October theme will bring you a box unlike any other. Whilst we always try to champion lesser known voices and bring you the books that you might not have discovered yourself, this October our whole box is dedicated to celebrating diversity, difference and the great wide world. Enough with the clues, it’s time for a theme reveal!
Pack your bags book-lovers, our theme for October will be FROM AFAR and will celebrate cultures, places and people from around the world.
About the Book: Our October book is a tale of twin sisters, separated by a brutal raid in their hometown; they will spend their teenage years trying to find their way back to one another. As they are cast adrift, they will face danger and discover new places, cultures and families, but can their shared dreams pull them back together again?
Written by a brilliant Ghanaian author and set partly in West Africa and partly in Brazil, this stunning paperback will transport you with its evocative language, historical detail and vivid characters.
Here in the UK, there’s a real shortage of YA books with non-western authors writing about their native countries. We are so thrilled to be able to introduce you to this brilliant book, which is not only a wonderful heart-felt story, but a fascinating insight into a part of the world and a culture that we knew so little about.
If you love stories set in far-flung places, by writers such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ruta Septys and Awaeke Emezi – you will adore this book. Or, if you (like us) are on a mission to read more books by Black authors and champion Black voices, here’s your chance.
As ever, our featured read will arrive beautifully gift-wrapped and will be accompanied by a signed bookplate from the author.
There will be Goodies! This October, we’re including some beautiful items from artists and small businesses who celebrate faraway places, or the culture of their homeland! Standby for a supplier reveal soon!
There will be an exclusive author book group: October members will be invited to join us for a virtual book group in our Clubhouse. You’ll get the chance to chat with the author of our featured read, ask your questions about this month’s book (or pretty much anything else) and make new bookish friends!
Or opt for Purely Books: If you love the idea of a brilliant new read and membership to an exclusive author book group, but bookish extras aren’t your thing, you can still join in the fun.
