The weekend is finally here and it’s time for a Book Box Club supplier reveal!
We are thrilled to announce that our November DANGERS OF THE DEEP box will feature a beautifully illustrated accessory created by CHERRY PIE LANE!
We are huge fans of Charlie’s (the brains behind Cherry Pie Lane) teeny tiny paintings, exquisite jewellery and beautiful homewares. We are so excited to include one of her exclusive designs in our November box!
The item that Cherry Pie Lane has designed is a super cute accessory, with a gorgeous illustration inspired by one of our favourite Dangers of the Deep. We can’t wait to wear ours with pride!
At Book Box Club we like to get to know the talented people who help to make our boxes so unique and so we were thrilled to get to know Charlie a little bit better in our Crafty Q&A…
We know you love books – so tell us about your favourites!
Oooh, I’ve read so many wonderful books over the years, it’s so hard to pick. I think one of the books that has stuck with me for over 30 years is “The little girl and the tiny doll”. I remember loving this book so much as a child, in fact, I have recently bought a copy for my daughter to read too!
Which of your creations are you proudest of and why?
Another tricky question… each new piece that I make is a result of all the pieces that I have made before. I learn and progress with every process. However, I am a huge supporter of small businesses and I am lucky enough to be part of a community of local, creative, small businesses and I sell at many local events, so I think I’m perhaps proudest of my local makes, like this “Hastings” sign which has been hand painted on to wood and then finished with handmade copper letters.
What does your arty area look like?
My arty area has evolved hugely over the years, and I’m lucky enough to be able to work from home. My desk is currently tucked away at the top of my stairs – although, if I’m honest, I spread myself around the whole house!
What do you eat whilst you illustrate and what do you listen to?
I try really hard to avoid snacking whilst I’m working, but I do have a terrible love for sweets, so if I happen to find an open pack lying around, they won’t last long!
I’ve recently discovered podcasts (I know… where have I been?!) so I’ve been chuckling away to “My Dad write a porno”, but if the children are about, I’ll pop “Masterchef” or “GBBO” on my laptop – that’s much less risky listening!
Have you ever had a creative disaster?
Haha, yes, SO many! From paint spills, to cuts, to dropping finished pieces – but I think the worst mistake was when I accidentally melted a whole kiln full of glass!
What inspires you to illustrate and how did you begin?
I find designing and making incredibly therapeutic, but at the same time, it really can’t be forced. I need to be in the right mindset to make – I’m not really sure what inspires me necessarily, but I get a feeling or a pull towards making certain items. It’s a lovely, organic way to make and create.
I guess I began by drawing on the walls as a child, but really, I’ve always been creative. It is the one process that has always been in my life and I’m happiest when I’m pulling ideas out of my head and making them come to life.
Apart from making beautiful things and reading what do you like doing?
I adore walking. If I can’t make or draw, I’ll walk – lovely long walks, in all weathers. I live by the sea and nothing beats a face full of sea breeze and salt!
I’m also a huge lover of cooking – I own far too many cook books and I’ve just started baking my own sourdough too, which is so much fun and a real labour of love.
To discover some of Charlie’s work head over to her etsy and give her a follow over on Instagram for lots of beautiful photos of her creations.
